Directed by Lois Weber
Lois Weber, 1915: Gabriel the Ascetic (Courtenay Foote) carves a nude statue of Purity and is killed by the mob that asked for it. The same parish, years later, will not follow the Naked Truth when she walks through their drawing rooms. Weber uses traveling double exposures so Margaret Edwards, unclothed as Truth, appears in pulpits and parlors that refuse to look. The scandal sold tickets; the sermon is about who will not see.
