Directed by Robert Florey, Joseph Santley
The Marx Brothers' first feature, 1929, from their Broadway show: a Florida hotel, a land auction, a stolen necklace, and Groucho as Mr. Hammer, who would sell you the swamp. Directed by Robert Florey and Joseph Santley for Paramount. The plot is a musical that keeps being interrupted, which is the point. "Why a duck?" is already here. So is Harpo's mute, Chico's accent, Zeppo as the young man who gets the girl. It is a photographed revue that accidentally invented their movies.
