The Devil's Party

Ray McCarey's 1938 crime drama gathers the grown members of Hell's Kitchen's Death Avenue Cowboys, Victor McLaglen's nightclub owner Marty Malone, two policemen, a priest, and a singer, for an annual reunion that collides with a murder. Marty, who once took the fall for the gang, now runs the Cigarette Club; when his thugs kill a debtor and then one of the cops, loyalty and the law tear the old circle apart. McLaglen, three years after The Informer, plays the doomed good-bad man with characteristic bulk and regret.
