Directed by Erich von Stroheim
Erich von Stroheim's first film as director, 1919, Universal: an Austrian officer (Stroheim) seduces the wife of an American doctor in the Dolomites. Francelia Billington and Sam De Grasse are the couple. Stroheim wrote, directed, designed, and starred. The mountains, the key, the gaze that is already an assault. It is the film that announced him as a man who would spend more than the studio had, and the spending is on looks. Blind husbands are the ones who brought him into the house.
