The General Line

A poor peasant woman, played by a real one, Marfa Lapkina, talks her village into a dairy cooperative. The set piece is the arrival of the cream separator: the farmers stare, the machine turns, the first drops come, and Eisenstein cuts it like a religious miracle until milk is spraying off the screen.
